Giving Back

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."

-Albert Schweitzer

Experience has shown me that those who are truly successful in life have in some way contributed to the success of those around them. I have been privileged to meet some wonderful people in the last few years who have inspired me to follow a path which I may have otherwise overlooked.

So here I would like to acknowledge the following people who have in some way assisted me on my journey:

Klara Johnson, a true fountain of knowledge who is genuinely interested in helping others learn. Thank you for teaching me the skills to move forward with something that I love. I wouldn't be where I am without your knowledge and support. For those who like to bake, Klara teaches decorating classes which you can find on her website. Visit www.klarajohnsons.com for schedules and info.

Bassem Wahba, the creative eye behind some of the most beautiful wedding images I've ever seen. Thank you for your inspiration and the gift of memories you share with the world captured in the spirit of your camera lense. You truly have an eye for the moment and were blessed with a great talent. Take a moment to visit www.bassem.ca and see for yourself.

Finally, to all my family and friends who repeatedly prodded me to follow my passion. Without your support I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing.

Now It's My Turn To Help

In 2009 I chose to support KidsAbility, donating a portion of wedding cake proceeds to this great local charity. Although this organization does a substantial amount of good for local kids (which I feel very strongly about), for 2010 I've decided to do something a little different.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas I found myself caught up in the insanity of running from one store to another trying to finish up that last bit of gift buying, but not really knowing WHAT to buy. What do you buy someone who already has everything that counts? This got me thinking about children in less developed nations, most having nothing but the clothing on their backs.

That's why I've chosen to support Samaritan's Purse Canada this year. If you've never heard of them, they provide emergency relief programs in over 70 countries and also manage "Operation Christmas Child", which aims to pack shoebox gifts to be distributed to children in desperate situations around the world. It's just my small way of paying it forward, and an attempt to bring a smile to a child in another part of the world.

To learn more about this organization or to make a donation yourself please visit: www.samaritanspurse.ca.
